Do people actually still watch X Factor?

Every single year this show is aired on television and gets to the point where the hilarious auditions are had and things start to get ‘serious’ for the ‘artists’, but can you recall what the masses say? So far, the only things I’ve heard are “Oh Jonny Random was such a better singer than Skanky Skankson,” or “Mr X can’t even sing! Why was he let through?” or “This show is clearly rigged!” Do these sound familiar to you? These are all the responses I hear to the show from people who will still continue to watch it week by week, year by year. I hardly hear anything positive.

Those plucky X Factor twins…

I think when X Factor came out, it was an interesting follow up to Pop Idol. The nation was glued to their television sets for a while and had friendly debate over the participants. Since then, I have not ever religiously watched it and only caught a few showings of it whilst in the same room as my mother because I am a lovely and social son. I can grit my teeth through the sob stories, passion and bollocks of the show. I’d like to say, without sounding too pretentious, that I made a healthy choice in listening to artists that aren’t part of this overdone show.

You said it Brucey

From what I can gather, most these appointed musicians are still just covering songs (with a couple of quite notable exceptions this year). Even if they win, they still release covers of tracks. To be honest, I’m not having a pop at the poor participants but more SyCo and their ideas. Isn’t everyone just bored of it by now? Pop music is a fantastic genre and always has been. I like it and I understand its place in the world, but more people definitely need to be aware of real musicians that write music because they want to, write lyrics so that they can express themselves and will do anything they can to perform it to others whether they’re being paid for it or not.

To be even more honest, it’s not even the show that bugs me so much. It’s the mostly the viewers. Everyone is intelligent enough to find new artists that aren’t jumping through hoops to appease their audience in such a boring and unoriginal matter. If you must complain about the show being rigged, or the participants are miming again, heed my words - Stop watching it and find something better to pass the time.

Anyway, that is my rant over, but I will bet you one of my legs that this years winner will release the most pants version of a popular song we are sick of. Am I right?
