The Girl Crush
Urban Dictionary (god love it) defines a girl crush as a few things but I am quite fond of the following: “An overwhelming sense of awe felt by a girl for another girl elicited by varying causes ranging from deep respect to unadulterated lust. may result in the any or all of the following: general euphoria, prolonged sense of inspiration, desire for intellectual-intercouse with crush, simple sexual arousal, etc.”
A girl crush comes in many forms- from simple wardrobe envy to sexual desire. And I, for one, have a ton of them.
A decade ago, a straight female declaring her lust for Britney Spears would have been seen as a little odd, as if she were a closet lesbian. These days, we’re all open to the possibilities of the girl crush and how it simply means nothing but pure admiration.
In the days of being a pre-teen and a little while after, it was ok for us to have posters of the Spice Girls up in our room without any connotations of it being anything but teen fandom. Sadly, as we grow older, idolising someone in the public eye can become a little embarrassing. Now in our 20s and beyond, we can no longer back our work files in photos of our female icons, we can no longer wear Spice Girls t-shirts (unless we live in Dalston, anyway) and I’m pretty sure our boyfriends would have something to say if we plastered our bedroom walls with posters of Taylor Swift.
So the girl crush is basically a follow on from the giggly admiration you had over a decade ago for Christina Aguilera/All Saints/Zoe Ball etc. Now, it’s ok to be loud and proud and tell the world you have one major girl crush going on!
For me, it has to be Princess of Chelsea – Miss Millie Mackintosh. The petite figure, natural beauty and style icon status make her my Ultimate Girl Crush (UGC). But there’s room for more than one girl crush, of course. Riri, model and actress Devon Aoki, Mila Kunis…
I’m sure my girl crushes are pretty standard but I’d love to know yours. Do you have a girl crush that is a little different, perhaps? I LOVE a good girl crush, I actually believe it to be healthy for a girl to be that excited and in awe of another female whether it be for their looks, talents or interlect. I remember being back in school and having several girl crushes, the general consensus (according to year 7 boys) was that I was a full blown lesbo… I’m not. Even now at 28 I have girl crushes left right and centre, and not just on famous ladies, some are even my friends or girls I know. In a day and age where women are constantly pitted against each other in pretty much everything we do, isn’t is NICE to see woman actually celebrating and supporting other women in this way?
Totally! I am a big believer in celebrating other women and a girl crush is the ultimate way to do so.

As a tranny ( yes those crazy guys who like being girls sometimes ) i find myself having lots of girl crushes. Now you may think “But your a guy of course you fancy girls” true! But i also think girl crushes can happen in guys like me. I fancy girls such as Megan fox but i have crushes on girls llike Lana Del Ray. On i would want to date the other i would want to be best female friends with.
Anyway I’ve probably just confused a ton pf you. Lol
I get this, I have crushes on guys all the time. Some guys I’d like to take to bed, others I’m just drawn to them for certain reasons but probably wouldn’t sleep with them. Same thing
I love a good girl crush. Mine change constantly but one that has been with me since I was quite young is Isabella Rossellini. Just beautiful. Then my girl crushes over the years have been Billie Piper, Kim Raver, Heidi Klum and Christina Hendricks. Swoon.
