Be Sillier

Growing up is much too sensible, don’t you think? Our days are filled with responsibility and an overload of tedious work and the time free to spent doing whatever the heck we want is limited to almost no time at all. I can’t be doing with the lack of fun that seems to come under the fine print of the contract of being an adult. Sometimes I don’t want to save my money for the necessities or get an early night or go with the sensible option. I just want to be silly.

Silly Cupcakes

My latest resolution in my never ending list is to be silly more often. Not entirely ridiculous every single day, I’ll keep that a weekly thing, but at least one slightly less sensible thing on a daily basis. If I must work 12 hour shifts, I need an element of fun. I need ice-cream topped with Baileys and crushed shortbread stolen from the freezers at the restaurant. I need to listen to cheesy music from previous decades at full volume once everybody’s left the house. I need to sing at an inappropriate volume with absolutely no singing ability when a good song comes on in the car.

I think we could all use a little silliness every day. A cupcake instead of a sandwich. Our favourite bands from the 90′s, complete with dance moves whether we’re home alone or not. Boozy nights in with our best friends. Chocolate for breakfast. Ditching household chores to play with our beloved pets. Spending days that should be spent working away at our desk on a sunny beach.

This week I encourage you to have a short & solo dance party each morning, increasing the cheesiness each day. A pricey but delicious treat mid morning. A film that’ll make you laugh with somebody who makes you laugh just as much. Dinner at the most fun restaurant you can think of, pretending that it’s someone’s birthday in the hopes of free cake. A drink at noon. Sex in your lunch break. Cake mix for dessert.

Be sillier today. It feels good.
